Photo of the Week 23/11/21

This week’s Photo of the Week is a bit different as it was taken on a trip to Lanzarote way back in 2009. These adorable sparrows at the tourist attraction Jameos del Agua were incredibly comfortable around humans and Phil just had to take the opportunity to get some photos of them. As you will notice in the technical details below, the camera used here was actually a point-and-shoot camera that Phil had with him to take some photos while on holiday, rather than a professional-level camera, but it still did a fantastic job at capturing these cute little birds.
Camera details:
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ28
ISO: 160
Shutter Speed: 1/250s
Aperture: F5
Focal Length: 86.4mm
Phil actually edited this photo recently after finding it when searching through old photos. He applied an overall reduction of light and shadows and dropped the black point, before increasing the saturation. He then used a subject mask on the birds to increase their clarity, sharpness and saturation. Finally, he applied two gradient filters; one top to bottom which he used to adjust saturation and contrast to balance the picture, and one bottom to top to increase the contrast of the fence top.
